Oracle unveils enhanced Xstore POS on cloud platform

Today

Oracle has announced the release of a redesigned version of its Xstore Point of Service (POS) application, introducing significant enhancements that aim to streamline retail operations and improve customer interactions.

The updated Xstore POS is constructed on a new architecture backed by Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Oracle Autonomous Database. This development offers retailers greater security, performance, and cost-effectiveness in deploying and updating capabilities on this platform.

The new system features dashboards that provide shop assistants with immediate access to customers' purchase histories and worklists. These functionalities are intended to guide employees in fulfilling complex orders, such as preparing 'Buy Online, Pick Up In Store' (BOPIS) orders, efficiently.

Paul Woodward, Vice President of Retail Products at Oracle, stated, "Point of Service systems are at the epicenter of in-store operations, and Oracle just made Xstore, one of the world's most used and trusted retail POS platforms, even more functional and effective from its architecture through to its intuitive workflows. Now, retailers have the agility and security to support evolving customer journeys, move inventory from anywhere, and adhere to regional requirements while delivering great experiences to both their customers and staff."

The architecture of Xstore allows it to be delivered across various models, including public cloud, multicloud, on-premises, and OCI Roving Edge Infrastructure. It also offers mobility, accessible on iOS and Android-based tablets and desktops.

These enhancements coincide with the growing responsibilities of retail staff owing to the expanding nature of customer journeys. The Oracle Retail Xstore empowers associates with dashboards showcasing transaction histories, potential offers, and rewards, enabling them to personalise customer interactions and handle transactions with minimal training.

Furthermore, associates can check inventory across all channels, facilitating efficient movement of merchandise and meeting customer needs by enabling items to be shipped or collected from various locations.

Additionally, the updated Xstore system aids store managers by providing a comprehensive view of order fulfilment. This ensures timely customer deliveries, enhancing overall satisfaction.

Leveraging OCI and OCI Container Instances, the new model enhances performance and security, allowing for fast deployment and updates without server management. This flexibility is especially beneficial for retailers in areas with unstable Wi-Fi through the use of OCI Roving Edge Infrastructure, which provides cloud services in remote or challenging locations.

Xstore's current reach includes operations in 95 countries, offering built-in translation in 13 languages and supporting multiple currencies. It accommodates regional differences with localisation formats to comply with local regulations.
